We are all familiar with these ‘no additive’ labels that are considered so normal here: non-GMO, no hormones, no antibiotics, gluten-free, no nitrites/nitrates, no sugar added, or even organic, which simply means a combination of the word ‘no.’
Why would this be a bad thing, though? Of course, we want to know that there are ‘no hormones’ in our food. The thing is, we have been conditioned to believe it is normal to label our foods that way. But seriously, wouldn’t it be much easier to say what’s in a food rather than saying what’s not in it?
Think of all the foods that don’t have those labels. Those foods are most likely loaded with toxic dyes, harmful chemicals, GMOs and other health-compromising ingredients.
Wouldn’t you rather be warned?
Would’n you rather know that toxic ingredients are added to those foods? Would’n you want to see big obvious warning signs, just like cigarettes say SMOKING CAUSES CANCER? But no, that is not how it is usually labeled. Instead, toxic foods are marketed and sold to us, the consumers who unknowingly trust that our food is safe.
The reason is that saying something is not toxic sells better than having to label all toxic ingredients. Can you imagine how the demand for clean organic foods would change drastically if they were considered standard and every toxic pesticide, herbicide, preservative, hormone, antibiotic, food dye, HFCS, GMO, etc. had to be clearly labeled as a dangerous health threat?
How many of these processed packaged foods or even fruits and veggies that are considered ‘normal,’ would you still buy if they had labels with ‘GMO’ and ‘toxic chemicals’ all over them? Probably not many!
